Are there physicians on the staff of Midwest or are the practitioners licensed in any way?

Our orthotists and prosthetists are not physicians. They are also not licensed in the state of Indiana because the state does not provide for licensing. Our facilities and practitioners, however, are accredited by the ABC (American Board for Certification Orthotics and Prosthetics, Inc.).

What is the difference between an Orthotist and a Pedorthist?

An Orthotist is educated, trained and certified to fit any type of orthotic device from a simple knee sleeve to a complex custom spinal orthosis. A Pedorthist specializes in the mechanics of the foot and ankle complex and is certified to assess and fabricate a wide variety of both custom fabricated and custom fitted foot orthosis and shoe modiications.

Do I need a prescription to see an Orthotist or a Pedorthist at Midwest Orthotic & Technology Center?

It is not necessary to have a prescription in order to be evaluated by one of our practitioners. Should we agree that some type of orthotic management is appropriate, we will contact your physician and obtain a prescription prior to fitting any type of device. This is just one way that we try to make things as easy as possible on you, the patient.

Does Midwest Orthotic & Technology Center work with both adults and children?

At Midwest Orthotic & Technology Center, we pride ourselves on understanding that children are not small adults, but rather, they are a unique type of client. We have practitioners who specialize in pediatric orthotic management. A large portion of our facility was designed around our pediatric client base and is very non-threatening to our apprehensive pediatric population, yet our adult clients feel equally comfortable, respected and cared for in our warm, non-sterile atmosphere.

I have no way to get in to your office. How can I get treatment?

Midwest Orthotic & Technology Center is the only orthotics/prosthetics facility in Northern Indiana that will arrange appointments at your location. While we would prefer to see our clients in our office, we will see clients in their homes, therapy clinics, nursing homes or wherever necessary to provide the best possible service.

My feet hurt at the end of the day, and my knees are achey, but I don’t know why.
I work on the all day, but by the end of the day, I just need to get off of them. Can you help me?

This could be caused by a variety of conditions. Often proper footwear, combined with either small shoe modifications or foot orthosis will dramatically improve the way that a person feels on their feet. Please schedule an evaluation with one of our pedorthists or orthotists.

How much do you charge for an evaluation?

While our evaluations are thorough, we do not charge for them. We will evaluate you and make recommendations to you, but there is no charge for our services unless we fit you with shoes or some type of orthotic device.

Does my insurance cover all of the charges at Midwest?

This used to be a simple question to answer, but today, the complexities of individual policies make it difficult to give an all-inclusive answer. In general, most of the services and devices that we provide here at Midwest are covered by most major insurance networks, Medicare and Medicaid. Each policy is different, though. So, after your evaluation, once recommendations are made, your insurance company will be contacted to determine coverage for the recommended service(s) and you will be informed of coverage and any out of pocket expense prior to the service actually being provided. This way, you will have the opportunity to make the decision on whether or not to proceed with service.
